Product and Marketing Meetup in Las Vegas

At SecurityTrails, we run a diverse remote team. I’ve always built companies with remote offices, but this is my first time having individual people being remote as a strategy.

About Us

I am physically located in Los Angeles, CA, and we have team all over the world: Munich Germany, Portland Oregon, Helsinki Finland, Belgrade Serbia, Singapore, and Maldonado, Uruguay.

I’ve always built companies with remote offices, but this is my first time having individual people being remote as a strategy. We are doing this to find the most qualified security researchers, product managers and engineers. We’ve done one meetup before in Europe and this is our second.

People I’ve met that are running successful remote organizations are working through the complexities of having a remote team in elegant ways to make it a big strength. We’ll try to do that and blog about it as we do.

We are doing this to find the most qualified security researchers, product managers and engineers.

About the Meet Up

We’re spending a month in Los Angeles working from an AirBNB. We’re planning out the future of our products and how we’ll market them. We have some tight goals that we’re working on for the end of the month:

  1. Product Brainstorming: A lot of the time we spent in Vegas is using our current product: DNSTrails.com to research things and find correlations about internet security. We’ve found some very interesting stuff and will be blogging about it.
  2. Blog Post Machine: Have our blog machine up and running posting our own research about the latest security headlines.
  3. New Team Onboardings: We have added 2 legit data scientists that have graduate degrees and have impressed us with their final projects. We’re onboarding them to the team to make our Spark importing more robust and allow us to build pipelines to modify indices as we have new product ideas.
  4. API: We’re combining our prototype APIs which some customers are using into a central API where all the details of patterns are thought through for the future. One of our ideas in our Product Manifesto is to be Composable and another is to be Frictionless so we’re combining both of these ideas into the API design.

What We’re Working On

We’re working on mapping out very large data sets on the internet and making them searchable and easily correlatable.
